It all started with the vision of one man, the Late Pesi M. Shaw, who identified a need to develop end-to-end software that would manage his business, a growing chain of leading hotels in India.
The year was 1987…
Jimmy P. Shaw soon set up an in house IT department with the able support of a brilliant systems analyst Faiz Siddique and a small but dedicated band of five coders to fulfill this dream.
With dreams of becoming a de facto Indian hospitality system standard, a hunt for a brand name also took on passionate proportions and finally the simplicity and attractiveness of the then technology rage The “Walkman” caught Mr. Shaw's fancy and he christened his software “ShawMan”, the name caught on and the development concluded in the release of its first ShawMan Property Management System Suite of products in 1991.
Till 1997, the software remained more of a passion and a personal hobby of the Shaw's and was neither commercially marketed nor sold and remained in use at no more than a dozen Hotels, Restaurants and Hospitality Institutes but of a premier standard, serviced by a dedicated 7-member team. ShawMan was then still only a division of the parent Hospitality consulting company Shaw Hotels.
With the passing away of Mr. Pesi M Shaw in 1997 and after spinning ShawMan Software into an independent entity, the ShawMan brand name got large scale recognition of its decade long spirit of sustained cutting edge development efforts and is today considered as a leader in providing Hospitality solutions in India and overseas.
While in 2000, ShawMan Software became an IBM Business Partner and got its software systems certified under the StoreProven and ServerProven programs, in 2001, ShawMan POS won the coveted IBM Best Solutions award in the Hospitality Segment in Asia Pacific region. |
